We now have the ability to produce massive amounts of content using bots and AI. However, this inflation of content reduces its value and often carries little real meaning, despite its intent to convey significance. Content without meaning is akin to a signifier without a signified. The overproduction of content contributes to information overload, which can hinder our capacity to learn and engage meaningfully with the material
Algorithms encourage engagement—any type of engagement—but do not necessarily reward meaningful interaction. Platforms like Facebook often promote “reels.” These reels showcase red-hot metal balls thrown into ice or rice. They also feature videos of colorful slime. In this context, we can no longer ask, “What does it mean?” Instead, we must ask, “Why does it matter?” This shift underscores the disconnection between content consumption and meaningful understanding.
